David Can! Zumbathon

June 2, 2013 we will be having our first David Can! Zumbathon. The event will be from 2-4 pm at Bien Venue, 1402 East Williams St, Apex, NC 27539.
To pre register online visit http://bit.ly/DavidCanZumbathon. For more information  or to volunteer please contact: Ashley Palmer at  919-280-4052 or palmer_ashley@hotmail.com.

The reason for this fundraiser is primarily to pay for rehab and  medical expenses that insurance does not cover. To give you an idea about the cost; according to The University of Alabama National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the costs for my level of injury  can be considerable, with the first year costing $739,874 and each subsequent year costing $109,077.
See http://www.christopherreeve.com for mor information.
David currently supplements his occupational and physical therapy by working out at a gym called Race to Walk. Race to Walk Race is devoted to providing a comprehensive, post-acute program for individuals suffering from spinal cord injuries and other related neurological disorders, specializing in exercise-based training (http://www.racetowalk.org).  The results that David has seen thus far have been great, but with the medical expenses he can not continue to go without outside support.  His goal is to get strong enough so that he can independently care for hisself  and his boys so that his family can stop using nursing care and ultimately reduce the load/stress on his wife.
As always I’d like to thank everyone for your love and support.

David A. Jeffers (Enloe High School, class of 96’) was involved in a life changing accident on Aug 1, 2011 in which he sustained a spinal cord injury. David is currently paralyzed from the shoulders down and working hard at rehabilitation. This husband and father is an incredibly talented and resilient individual, as we all know. However, even the strongest of us need help, support, and encouragement at some point in our lives; hopefully this movement provides all of these things for David and his family.Spinal Cord Injuries are very unpredictable, and no one can predict how much funtion he'll get back, but David is working hard. We all know David has the bravery, desire, and fortitude to pull this off. However, this effort will cost 100% of David’s attention, effort, and resolve for at least another year.
